We’re ready for another year of book clubs, creative writing, Dungeons & Dragons, teen leadership, and more — registration is now open for 2023-2024 school year programs! Head right over to the Programs page to see everything that’s available, or read on for a few highlights! You can also RSVP for an upcoming open house to learn more about programs, ask questions, and sign up with the support of an 826NYC staff member.
In this year’s Write Away Workshops we’ll tackle a new theme or genre of writing in each 5-week session, with deep dives on books and media from the genre to support our learning along the way! This year’s topics include monster mayhem, sitcom-inspired stories, poetry, stories from everyday life, and spy and mystery fiction. These classes take place on weekends and serve grades 1-5.
Write After School is back, with two days each week for grades 1-5 and 6-8. Like last year, our elementary aged authors will participate in Book Club on Mondays, devouring students’ picks from graphic novels, early reader books, while on Wednesdays they’ll cover the same content as Write Away Workshops with a little extra time for writing mechanics, like learning literary devices and building up our grammar and vocabulary toolkits. Meanwhile, our middle school writers are leveling up, with genre-focused readings and media on Tuesdays and related writing workshops on Thursdays.
We’re seeking avid adventurers for Dungeons & Dragons & Writers, where stories change with a role of the dice. On Sundays, grades 5-8 will learn the mechanics of D20 game play with a game using the Everyday Heroes-style campaign, set in an alternate reality New York City. On Saturdays, grades 9-12 will double down on their quest to craft a narrative that will be published in the form of a collaborative novel in June. Join us to play your part and write your chapter!
And last but not least, the Teen Writers Collective is once again accepting applications from authors in grades 8-12 who want to build writing and leadership skills in a supportive peer environment.
We can’t wait to see what you’ll write this year!
