We Write the Future: AI & Science Fiction
What is AI really—are we talking about J.A.R.V.I.S. from the Iron Man movies, or the tool on your phone that suggests what word you might want to write next in your text message? In this workshop, we’ll explore the basics of how large language models like ChatGPT work, and discuss the problems this technology solves and those it creates. Students will write science fiction stories imagining a future where these tools make all the difference in the world—for better or for worse.
In this workshop, students will work on writing skills including conveying stance, world-building, dialogue, and character development.
About Write Away Workshops
We know that young authors have the power and imagination to go beyond the five-paragraph essay. In Write Away Workshops, students explore a multitude of genres and subjects, and develop their voices as writers. Groups write freely and participate in imaginative writing activities and lessons. Young writers leave each workshop with a piece to be proud of, as well as a newfound understanding of the topic and new friends.
