During 826NYC’s Personal Statement workshops, teens craft the essays that show colleges their power, potential, and voices. Workshops and writing sessions focus not only on the elements of a great personal statement for college applications, but also equip young writers with the tools to continue writing and editing long after the sessions conclude.
Your school or organization can mix and match from the following list to create the perfect resource for your students:
- An introductory workshop where students explore different devices for sharing personal stories, and experiment with approaches to writing about pivotal moments from their lives
- A kickoff workshop where students learn the essentials of the personal statement, brainstorm content for their essay, and develop an outline
- A series of working sessions where students develop peer editing skills and work one-on-one or in small groups with writing mentors to perfect their essays
Programs are customized for your site, and can be scheduled for a single day up to a semester-long series. Workshops are available for weekend programs on a limited basis.
