Welcome 2024 Teen Writers' Collective Interns!

News —— July 15, 2024

Say hello to the summer interns from 826NYC’s Teen Writers’ Collective! Over six weeks they’ll support our summer workshops, participate in professional development, and create captivating capstone projects.

Kayla is a rising high school senior and spends most of her time writing, reading graphic novels, listening to music, and planning her future career in film. This is Kayla’s second summer interning with 826NYC to create a unique capstone project, mentor elementary school campers, and build her resume.

Shamsun is a writer, dancer, and rising senior at the Academy for Young Writers. She recently completed a paid internship with the Youth Food Justice Network where she worked hard to make changes within her community through many, many workshops and conferences. In the future, she plans on becoming a dancer and writer — or something like that. She loves to scrapbook, crochet, and create after a long day.

Liam has been with 826NYC since elementary school and channels his passion for writing into script. He recently won a Gold Key Award from Scholastic for screenwriting and was a quarter-finalist at the Scout Film Festival. Liam also loves to practice Tae Kwon Do, play the piano, and indulge in his love for video games.

Our Teen Writers’ Collective prepares young people in grades 8-12 for academic and professional success. But we can’t do it without your help. We’re raising $20,000 this summer to equip students like Kayla, Shamsun, and Liam with the tools they need to write their own paths forward.

Join us and unleash endless possibilities for young New Yorkers by making a donation by August 15th!
