Josh and his brother received their Scrabble superpowers when a vat of toxic sludge was spilled at an otherwise uneventful family game night. Help him supplement those superpowers with some good old fashioned cheating by donating to his team and 826NYC here, or take him and all others on and form your own team here! Josh answered a few questions for us:
How did you first hear about 826NYC?
I first heard about 826NYC ages ago from a friend who was a Dave Eggers fan. It sounded like a cool concept but I never got a chance to check it out until I was living in Park Slope.
What was it about 826NYC and the work we do that made you want to get involved?
I’m a big believer in the power of education, and I was lucky enough to have lots of opportunities as a kid. But I think 826NYC’s model is a great way to give kids who might not have those same opportunities a love of writing and creativity.
Be honest–are you in it for the Scrabble, the children, or the cheating?
I’m in it for the Scrabble and the kids. I usually take a hard line on cheating, but for such a good cause, I’m willing to make an exception.
If you could play any one word in Scrabble, real or fictional, what would it be? (And remember, if you raise enough money, you can!)
I think the dream is to play Oxyphenbutazone. Last year I played umiaq in the final game and that felt really good. But any weird word that’s a bingo would be great!
