We’re excited to introduce you to our April Author of the Month, Parker!
What is your favorite thing you’ve written recently? Tell us a bit about it!
I recently worked on a piece called Ashra–Fragmented Mind. I wrote it for the TWC chapbook. It’s about a girl who is trapped in a lab. But to cope in that lab, she creates a fairy tale in her mind. There are a few references to stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
What are three words you would use to describe 826NYC? How would you describe 826NYC?
826NYC is a place to learn and grow your confidence in writing.
If someone was considering joining 826NYC, what would you tell them?
I would tell them to do it! It’s a very fun program, and there are a lot of kind people here.
What advice would you give someone writing for the first time?
I would say start with an idea that you have in mind on what you want to write. Then think about it a bit before you put it on paper. Find inspiration from movies, shows, books of the same genre you want to write about.
You’ve been part of 826NYC for a few years—what’s one moment that stuck out to you?
My main memory is talking to a bunch of volunteers, showing them my stories. I received some great feedback that helped me to improve my writing. I felt excited about getting to share with other people. I ordinarily don’t share with a lot of people.
How do you hope writing will continue to be a part of your life in the future?
I hope it helps with my high school writing and college applications. I hope to write a few books.
