We’re excited to introduce you to our June Author of the Month, Julius!
What is your favorite thing you’ve written recently? Tell us a bit about it!
I liked some of the stories that were a little bit more comedic than serious. I just like funny things. I wrote a mystery story about a detective who has to go into his missing boss’s manor to investigate with his boss’s nephew, and it turns out he was stuck in a basement with a bunch of cheese rats.
What are three words you would use to describe 826NYC? How would you describe 826NYC?
Welcoming: They allow you to be who you want to be. You can tell jokes and laugh.
Empathetic: I was feeling down because I did something and I didn’t get the reaction I wanted, but a volunteer helped me feel better by listening to me and comforting me.
Whimsical: Everyone always seems like they’re in such a good mood, and it’s very upbeat every time I enter the room, which is terrific.
If someone was considering joining 826NYC, what would you tell them?
I would tell them to totally do it. Everyone is so nice, and it’s a great way to write what you’re feeling and share it with others.
What advice would you give someone writing for the first time?
Don’t limit yourself to what others have done. Use more interesting and intriguing words, because that’s what hooks readers.
How do you hope writing will continue to be a part of your life in the future?
I think writing will help me a lot in school. I love reading and writing. It can help me understand more words, add to my vocabulary, and help me during debates or speeches I might do in the future.
