How Is 826NYC Responding To Covid19?

News —— March 13, 2020

Hello 826NYC Community,

Like everyone, we are feeling the impacts of Covid19 and have had to make changes in order to protect our students, volunteers, families, and team.

The safety and health of our community remain our number one priority. Therefore as of today the following programs and activities are canceled or moving online:

1. Field Trips hosted at the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.

2. After-School Tutoring and Writing at both the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co and the Williamsburg branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.

3. Saturday Workshops

4. Volunteer Orientations

5. Chapbook Parties

Our in-school publishing programs will remain open for the time being. The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. will also remain open. At After-School and at the store we are ensuring that everyone entering is sanitizing their hands and that surfaces are being wiped regularly.

We are also exploring creative solutions to ensure that during this time, students and families have access to resources that can continue to keep their worlds big. To that end, we will begin offering online programs and weekly writing prompts for all of New York City’s young people soon. If you are a parent who would like to learn more about these opportunities and are not already receiving workshop announcements, you can update your newsletter subscription here.

Our youth have important stories to tell and 826NYC will continue to support them and share their writing with the world. Like so many non-profit organizations, we are grateful for the continued support and generosity of individuals who sustain our work – during times of both robust growth as well as unforeseen challenges. Thank you for sharing our commitment to providing services for NYC youth.

Thank you,

Joshua Mandelbaum
