We’re excited to introduce you to our April Volunteer of the Month, Christina Henricks! Diane started volunteering with us in 2022 and supports our Write Away Workshops. Learn more about Diane by reading her interview below:
826NYC: How did you first get involved with 826NYC and why did you decide to volunteer?
Christina: I started supporting Write Away Workshops as a way to give back to my community, try something new, and learn more about teaching.
826NYC: What’s your favorite part of 826NYC?
Christina: I like how it all comes together. 826NYC’s compelling mission guides the amazing staff and volunteers to create a culture that lets student writers thrive.
826NYC: What’s your favorite part of supporting Write Away Workshops?
Christina: Watching students engage with different topics, take risks, and develop trust in themselves and others has been very meaningful.
826NYC: What do you do when you’re not at 826NYC?
Christina: Outside of the classroom, I help build software, and I explore through food, books, and travel.
826NYC: What advice would you give a new volunteer?
Christina: Let the writers lead: they will tell stories in their own unique ways, at their own paces, and in a single class, you might need to ask questions, be the audience, share a smile, be a thought partner, and more.
826NYC: What are your superpowers?
Christina: Curiosity, energy, and optimism.
