826NYC Earns a Four-Star Rating From Charity Navigator

News —— June 26, 2026

826NYC is proud to announce that we have earned a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most trusted nonprofit evaluator. This distinction is Charity Navigator’s highest possible rating and designates 826NYC as an official “Give with Confidence” charity, recognizing our strong financial health, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.

For more than 20 years, Charity Navigator has helped donors make informed giving decisions by evaluating over 230,000 nonprofits nationwide. Their rigorous assessment goes beyond financial performance to measure how effectively organizations deliver on their mission and serve their communities.

Charity Navigator evaluates nonprofits across four key areas: Accountability & Finance, Leadership & Adaptability, Culture & Community, and Impact & Results. Together, these metrics help paint a fuller picture of an organization’s overall health, transparency, and ability to create meaningful change.

At 826NYC, trust is at the heart of everything we do. Every day, families, educators, and community partners trust us to create joyful, affirming spaces where young people can discover the power of their voices through writing. Our donors place that same trust in us, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Each contribution to 826NYC helps provide high-quality writing and publishing programs for more than 3,500 students across New York City’s five boroughs. From in-school publishing projects and field trips to after-school workshops and paid teen internships, donor support ensures that young writers have the tools, mentorship, and opportunities they need to thrive.

“Receiving Charity Navigator’s Four-Star Rating is a meaningful affirmation of 826NYC’s commitment to both impact and stewardship,” said Rebecca Darugar, Executive Director of 826NYC. “We are truly grateful to our community of supporters who make this work possible. This recognition reflects our promise to use every dollar responsibly and intentionally so that more young people across New York City can experience the transformative power of writing.”

“We are delighted to provide 826NYC with third-party accreditation that validates their operational excellence,” said Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of Charity Navigator. “The Four-Star Rating is the highest possible rating an organization can achieve. We are eager to see the good work that 826NYC can accomplish in the years ahead.”
