826NYC Statement on Family Separation

News —— July 11, 2018

826NYC stands with families. We seek to create a space where all students are free to tell their stories and to explore the world around them on their own terms. We stand with families and policies that help students thrive, no matter their origins. Every day, we ask students to express themselves and bravely write their own futures and it is critical that, as an organization, we do the same.

We are standing with our students, their families, and communities. We stand with the leaders they will become and in the service of their education. Access to that education and opportunity to thrive should not be thwarted and so we denounce the criminalization and detainment of immigrants and refugees under the so-called “zero tolerance” policy.

We are committed to supporting every student and family that participates in our programs by advocating for them and providing a space to process these policies.
