We’re back with the September Edition of the 826NYC Reading Series, a monthly reading series at Pete’s Candy Store (709 Lorimer St) on the second Monday of each month. In addition to their own work, writers will read a short piece by an 826NYC student. This month features writers Donnie Welch, Lauren Modiano, Lilian Mehrel and Suzanne Cope, and is hosted by 826NYC Volunteer Danielle Sinay. We hope you’ll join us for this fun evening in celebration of Brooklyn writers, 826NYC, and the wonderful students we serve!
Admission is free and Happy Hour runs until 7PM with $2 Yuengling and $3 well drinks and Brooklyn Lager

DONNIE WELCH teaches creative writing at the Rebecca School for Autism. His writing has appeared in Gravel; Passages North; The Emerson Review; War, Literature, & the Arts; and elsewhere. He has a micro-chapbook The Post Atomic Sonnets (Origami Poems Project 2016) and a collection of children’s poetry Who Gave These Flamingos Those Tuxedos(Emerson College Wilde Press 2013). LILIAN MEHREL: Lilian T. Mehrel is an award-winning writer & director with a visionary sense of feeling and humor. Lilian’s films have premiered at Tribeca and screened internationally at Clermont-Ferrand, and her awards include ABC/Disney and HFPA. She earned her MFA from NYU Tisch Grad Film, and her BA from Dartmouth with a Senior Fellowship. A mixed-ethnicity daughter of immigrants, she also authored/illustrated a family memoir and is a PD Soros Fellow. LAUREN MODIANO is the editorial assistant at the women’s leadership non-profit, Take The Lead. She loves to write about inspiring women leaders and what they have to teach us, but she primarily works in theater as a writer, director, and performer. A recent graduate of Yale University, Lauren is a brand new New Yorker and couldn’t be happier about it. She’s also an aspiring juggler, so if you’re looking to teach, she’s looking to learn.
Danielle Sinay is a writer and musician living in Brooklyn, New York. She’s written for Teen Vogue, HuffPost, VIBE, SPIN, and Man Repeller, and plays in a band called Wing Baby, for which she sings and writes songs. She performs with UCB, curates and hosts the 826NYC Reading Series, and tutors and teaches writing with 826NYC.
