The Shape of a Story: Fiction Writing
We all have a story we’ve been waiting to tell–and whether it’s still just an inkling of an idea or you have a full first draft that’s been collecting dust, this is your chance to bring it to life. Join us for this five-week workshop where we’ll work on developing character arcs, scene-building, and infusing salient details into a narrative. Participants will come with an idea or a beginning, and work on their draft between sessions, putting tips and tools from the workshop to use.
Participants will decide whether their final product will be a short story, or the first chapter of a longer work plus an outline or synopsis of the full work.
About Rebellious Phrase
In this new program for teens in grades 9-12, we’ll explore a different topic or genre in each 5-week workshop. Participants are invited to bring ideas, works-in-progress, and dream projects to develop, as each week we introduce new techniques for writing and editing. Sessions will be led by teaching artists who are working writers and/or guest authors and media-makers.
Registration
Registration for this class is now open. The registration form includes questions for the participating student to answer, so parents/guardians should plan to fill out the registration form with their child.
