We’re excited to introduce you to our March Volunteer of the Month, Diane Chang! Diane started volunteering with us in 2023 in our summer workshops, and currently supports our elementary school students in our Write After School Book Club! Learn more about Diane by reading her interview below:
826NYC: How did you first get involved with 826NYC and why did you decide to volunteer?
Diane: I was looking for a volunteering opportunity as I had more time, and my friend and board member David Tuffy suggested I volunteer for 826NYC.
826NYC: What’s your favorite part of 826NYC?
Diane: I love the mission and the physical space. I’ve seen students build friendships and explore creatively here.
826NYC: What do you enjoy most about volunteering in Write After School?
Diane: I like hearing what’s on the students’ minds and helping them connect their experiences with the stories we read together.
826NYC: What do you do when you’re not at 826NYC?
Diane: I love to read and go on long walks in Prospect Park with my greyhound Argo, named after Odysseus’ dog.
826NYC: What advice would you give a new volunteer?
Diane: Look out for the quiet students, they often have very active inner worlds.
826NYC: What are your superpowers?
Diane: I can start a fun conversation with almost anyone.
