February Volunteer of the Month: Nik Lokensgaard

News —— February 5, 2021

We’re excited to introduce you to our February Volunteer of the Month, Nik Lokensgaard. Nik started volunteering with us in Fall 2021, supporting students in Write Away Workshops! Learn more about his interests, superpowers, and receive some sage advice by reading his profile below.

826NYC: How did you first get involved with 826NYC, and why did you decide to volunteer?

Nik: I really love working with kids and I was drawn to how much the program at 826NYC encouraged creativity.

826NYC: What’s your favorite part of 826NYC?

Nik: My favorite part about 826NYC is hearing the ideas kids come up with; they think differently than adults and it’s refreshing.

826NYC: What do you do when you’re not at 826NYC?

Nik: When I’m not at 826NYC, I’m a father of a 6 year old, I edit video, and compose music.

826NYC: What advice would you give to a new volunteer?

Nik: A lot of kids have a hard time trusting their instincts when something feels even remotely like a school assignment so I think it’s important to try to encourage them to worry less about perfection and more about just diving in.

826NYC: What are your superpowers?

Nik: My superpowers are music and empathy.
