Teen Writers’ Collective

Overview

Teens are the next generation of literary leaders. The Teen Writers’ Collective (TWC) brings young writers together from around the city to explore the art of writing and literary citizenship. Together, they form a community of passionate and creative peers, serve as 826NYC youth leaders, and inspire students across the network.

In TWC, students support one another’s growth as writers and leaders. Students create original writing projects in a variety of genres throughout the year and publish their work in a professionally designed book. This year’s program will also include experiential learning opportunities that may include projects like editing select 826NYC student publications, taking field trips to cultural institutions, and engaging and learning from established guest authors and experts. At the end of the year, students showcase an original piece of writing and celebrate their accomplishments in a community celebration.

TWC students who are 14+ also qualify to apply for our paid summer internship program! Summer interns support workshop students, grow their facilitation and leadership skills, attend professional development trainings, and complete a creative capstone project. Students who participate in TWC for at least three months qualify to apply!

The group meets weekly throughout the school year on Fridays from 4:30–6:00 PM. Meetings are held at our Park Slope center (372 5th Ave, Brooklyn).
