We offer free evening and weekend workshops designed to foster creativity, strengthen writing skills, and provide students with a forum for executing projects they might not otherwise have the support to undertake. Workshops range from the playful to the practical, and all are taught by volunteer writers, artists, educators, and publishing professionals.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to increased demand, enrollment for workshops are now determined by lottery. Once you have signed up for a workshop, please look for an email from workshops@826nyc.org, verifying that we have received your request. If you have not heard from us after 48 hours, feel free to call.
Our workshops are limited enrollment and often generate wait lists. With this in mind, please only sign up if you can make every session of a workshop. Thank you!

OMG. We've had enough with emoticons and IMspeak. It's time to revive the good old-fashioned handwritten letter - pen, paper, spelled-out words, and all. In this two-session workshop, we'll design our own stationery, write letters, and then mail them using actual stamps and envelopes. Are you with us?

By the end of this workshop, you will have helped create a movie that you can take home to wow and impress friends and family alike. Now is your chance to be a part of claymation history.
Please note: Students must attend ALL six sessions of this workshop!
Brooklyn Gothic
3 Monday sessions: December 3, 10, 17 (2007)
6-8pm
Taught by 826NYC

Can you imagine Harry Potter without Hogwarts, Batman without a bat cave, or The Secret Garden without a garden? It's impossible! In this workshop we'll explore the importance of setting by designing our own Gothic castles complete with swooping arches, protective moats, and secret passageways. Then we'll write stories about the royal families, knights, or imaginary creatures that live inside their walls. We'll finish by bringing our castles off the page with a sweet building project...
