We offer free evening and weekend workshops designed to foster creativity, strengthen writing skills, and provide students with a forum for executing projects they might not otherwise have the support to undertake. Workshops range from the playful to the practical, and all are taught by volunteer writers, artists, educators, and publishing professionals.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to increased demand, enrollment for workshops are now determined by lottery. Once you have signed up for a workshop, please look for an email from workshops@826nyc.org, verifying that we have received your request. If you have not heard from us after 48 hours, feel free to call.
Our workshops are limited enrollment and often generate wait lists. With this in mind, please only sign up if you can make every session of a workshop. Thank you!
Festive Folklore: Build a Book from Scratch
3 Wednesday sessions: December 5, 12, 19 (2012)
6-7:30pm
Taught by 826NYC and Esther K. Smith
For ages 10 and up
Why do leaves change color? Why is every snowflake different? What makes the days shorter in the winter than in the summer? This workshop is your chance to rewrite history and science -- through your very own folktale.
In this workshop, you get to decide how the world came to be the way it is and turn your story into your very own book. Join us for a 4-session workshop, during which you will come up with your own stories and build a book from scratch.
Please note that enrolled students are expected to attend every session of this workshop.

6-8pm

For ages 10-14
Costume, check! Candy, check! Toilet paper...um, why would you want that? Now all you need for Halloween is one perfectly chilling ghost story. So pull up that cobwebby chair, light a candle, and we'll summon enough spooks and phantoms to tingle the strongest of spines. By the end of the evening, our hair will have turned white from fear...and we'll have some terror-filled tales to boot. Just in time for All Hallows' Eve!
